Hindalco Considers Consolidated Debt Peak at ₹80,000 Crore With FY31 Leverage Target

Hindalco has announced that its consolidated debt is anticipated to reach a peak of ₹80,000 crore. As part of its long-term financial strategy, the company has set a target for Novelis to reach a leverage ratio of 2.5x by the end of FY31. Leverage refers to the amount of debt a company uses to finance its assets and operations.

The management indicated that the process of reducing debt is set to gain momentum starting in the next quarter. This acceleration is linked to the fact that several major projects are currently nearing their completion phases. As these projects conclude, the capital expenditure requirements are expected to decrease significantly for the firm.

Furthermore, the company projects an improvement in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, which is commonly known as EBITDA. This growth in core operational profitability, combined with the generation of stronger free cash flow, will be utilized to fund the repayment of outstanding debt obligations. Free cash flow is the cash a company generates after accounting for cash outflows to support operations and maintain capital assets.

What it means for investors: The company is focusing on deleveraging its balance sheet as major capital projects reach their end. By prioritizing debt repayment through improved cash flows and earnings, the firm aims to reach specific leverage targets by FY31. Investors often monitor these debt levels to assess the long-term financial stability and health of a manufacturing entity.
