Indian Stock Market Remains Volatile Amid Global Uncertainty and FII Selling
Investment Point Daily | October 12, 2026
Dear Investors,
Indian equity markets witnessed volatility on Monday as early gains faded amid selling pressure and cautious investor sentiment. Following Friday’s strong recovery, mixed global cues, elevated interest rates, and persistent foreign institutional selling restricted further upside.
The Sensex initially advanced but subsequently weakened due to profit-booking. Nifty Futures’ 22,500 level remains an important technical reference. Sustained trading above this level could encourage recovery, while weakness below it may increase selling pressure.
Declining crude oil prices provided some relief to domestic markets. Brent crude traded near $103 per barrel, while US crude hovered around $90. However, elevated energy prices continue to pose inflationary risks.
The Reserve Bank of India’s measures to stabilise the rupee supported currency sentiment, with the rupee strengthening approximately 1% against the US dollar during early trading.
Sector-wise, selective buying emerged in automobile and metal stocks, while PSU banking and information technology shares faced pressure. Technology stocks, including Tech Mahindra, witnessed selling activity.
According to October 9 institutional trading data, Foreign Institutional Investors recorded net selling of approximately ₹3,568.90 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors purchased approximately ₹4,743.26 crore, providing partial market support.
Global uncertainty, elevated bond yields, geopolitical tensions, and upcoming corporate earnings remain important market drivers.
Market Outlook
Indian equities may continue experiencing volatility until stronger buying participation emerges. Stable crude prices, improved currency conditions, and sustained domestic institutional investment could support recovery.
Investors should monitor Nifty and Sensex technical levels, quarterly earnings, and institutional fund flows. Disciplined risk management, appropriate stop-loss levels, and avoiding aggressive positions during uncertain conditions remain essential.
